2010 storm names

The first regularly scheduled 2010 Atlantic Tropical  Weather Outlook was released this morning and all is quiet.  As is the norm for the first day of the season, the Outlook lists the storm names for the season.  With this cycle being first used in 1980 and last used in 2004, there are four new names and only three names that have been used every season this name group has been assigned to. The list:

Alex: Replaced Andrew after 1992, which had replaced Allen after 1980.  It was a major hurricane at sea in 2004.

Bonnie: A hurricane in 1980, 1986, 1992, and 1998 (making land fall in Wilmington, NC that season), and a tropical storm in 2004.

Colin: New for this season, replacing Charley

Danielle: A tropical storm in 1980, 1986, 1992, and an at-sea hurricane in 1998 and 2004.

Earl: At sea hurricane in 1980 and 1986. Tropical storm in 1992. Hurricane making landfall near Panama City in 1998. Tropical storm in 2004.

Fiona: New for this season, replacing Frances

Gaston: Replaced Georges after 1998. Tropical storm in 2004.

Hermine: Tropical storm in 1980, 1988, and 2004.

Igor: New for 2010, replacing Ivan.

Julia: New for 2010, replacing Jeanne.

Karl: At-sea hurricane in 1980, 1998, and 2004.

Lisa: At-sea hurricane in 1998 and 2004.

Matthew: Replaced Mitch after 1998, tropical storm in 2004.

Nicole: At sea hurricane in 1998 and substropical storm in 2004.

Otto: Tropical Storm in 2004.
