Tropical Storm Zeta forms

...LATE SEASON TROPICAL STORM...THE 27TH OF THE YEAR...FORMS IN THE
EASTERN ATLANTIC...

So, rumors of the death of the 2005 season proved to be premature.

Dr Masters’ comments on Zeta cover the current meteorological aspects of Zeta fairly comprehensively, so I will offer none of the sort, but instead offer a bit more history.

This is the first season since 1954 that there have been seven consecutive months of tropical storm formation.  The other two such seasons were 1934 and 19331953 could have claimed this record for itself, as it had a storm form in May and another in December, but it  did not because no storms formed in June or July.

For those wondering, there is one recorded instance of a storm forming in January: the subtropical storm in 1978.
